Union Coordination Committee announces week-long escalated mobilization
The Union Coordination Committee (UCC) has announced a program of escalatory steps it will take, including boycotting official exams and paralyzing the public administration starting on June 7. In the meantime, it is not yet clear whether parliament will be able to strike some sort of deal with the UCC before the ultimatum expires.

U.S. warship sent to Gulf to be on standby for Iraq
The United States will deploy one of its naval aircraft carriers to the Gulf to give President Barack Obama military options in light of the situation in Iraq, CNN quoted a U.S. official as saying, as the government in Baghdad bolstered the capital’s defenses against any possible attack by al-Qaeda inspired militants.
Obama Friday left himself a clear off-ramp by making military action in Iraq contingent on a "serious and sincere effort by Iraq's leaders to set aside sectarian differences" between the nation's Sunnis and Shiites.

NNA - In an issued statement by the Progressive Socialist Party Media Commission on Saturday, it described the atmosphere of Friday's meeting between Democratic Gathering Head, MP Walid Jumblatt, and former PM Saad Hariri in Paris as "positive and frank," whereby both men exchanged views over recent political developments on the local and regional scenes.
"Both agreed on the need to boost bilateral relations between the Progressive Socialist Party and Future Trend, and to promote joint action for meeting constitutional deadlines, at the forefront of which comes the presidential election, in a bid to avoid prolonging the current state of void and preserve the work of institutions, especially at the such a critical stage," the statement added.
