I- The facts.

Currently, it is established that the MP Boutros HARB is supported seriously by the 14 March Group of the government Majority.

Mr. Boutros HARB, according to his political past and future commitments, presents safeguards to defend a democratic way of the independence of Lebanon and the socio-economic balance of the Lebanese people.

The foundation of Christian support exists for this candidate through the support of MPs Christians of Kornet Chehwane, the Lebanese Forces, Kataebs and others.

He does not close the door to seeking agreement with any group of Lebanese political opposition to avoid social unrest and unnecessary civil wars.

He is, a priori, secured the support of at least a simple majority of half plus one of the deputies, making his election legal and constitutional even if there is not agreement with the Opposition.

General Michel AOUN is trustworthy because of his past as a soldier and the first activist for the independence of Lebanon. His current positions remain against Syrian interference in the affairs of Lebanon. The media propaganda against him is steadily increasing sympathy for this popular Christian man who has not soaked in the compromises of thirty years of Syrian hegemony and corruption in Lebanon.

We continue to hope that an agreement with the current Majority could be made with a two-thirds majority of the deputies supporting him in this election. What gives us the hope of avoiding war or unrest in the country as a result of hostilities and evident threatening by pro Syrians groups in Lebanon.

General AOUN has outpaced other politicians in his mission to reduce tensions with HIZBALLAH and we want to give him a chance to uphold the authority of the Lebanese State and the UN resolutions on Lebanon in a peaceful manner.

General AOUN has a legitimacy to be President of the Republic in the current political context in Lebanon. Since the legislative elections in 2005, strongest political groups among Shiites and Sunnis have imposed their candidates for the key positions of power to the presidency of parliament and the post of prime minister. As a Christian, the strongest group is that of General AOUN. Yet he was held away from power of the government since 2005. His marginalization led him to accept support from the side of dubious pro-Syrian Lebanese political groups. But his political positions are more independent than the 14 March group.

In the choice of the candidate Michel AOUN, there is need for closer and mutual confidence between this man and political leaders of the March 14 group, first Christians but also Muslims and Druzes.

Lebanese citizens currently stay powerless in front of these politicians who play with the future and security of the people to make believe that the disagreement comes from others. But they are all guilty of bringing the country to ruin and disaster.

II - Conclusions

First, we want the peaceful agreement between Majority and Opposition. Admittedly, it favors the General AOUN. But he has the priority for the reasons cited above. He is not the candidate of the Opposition. He has only an Understanding with the Hezbollah Opposition.

We trust also MP Boutros HARB who appears to be the solution even in an rescue election of a simple majority of half plus one of the members of the Lebanese parliament.

In a climate of mistrust of political leaders, we ask, as he did Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah SFEIR, that Members choose a president inside the parliament between the two candidates, according to their conscience and morality in favor of the democrat interest of the Lebanese people.
