Reactions on the Lebanese political and economic news

04/30/2007: Neither the international court nor a new government of participation of power will regulate the current political and economic crisis in Lebanon. One needs a political scheme of work to restore an effective government even temporarily and to maintain peace.

I - Facts: (information collected through the media).

1
The media battle, between the group of March 14, leader of the Revolution of the Cedar, with government SANIORA and its majority at the Parliament on a side, and the group of March 8 pro Syrian carried out by Hezbollah, reached an acute level. Then the assassination of the two young partisans of the Druze progress’s socialist party of Walid JOUMBLATT caused a deceleration and calls for the dialogue and the national unity.

2
The removal and the assassination of Ziad GHANDOUR and Ziad KABALANE appear to be directed like threat and blackmail to create a civil war to make fold Mr. JOUMBLATT and oblige it to negotiate with the pro Syrian opposition group.

3
Mr. Walid JOUMBLATT continues to call with reserve to avoid a civil war. He made visits in the villages of the District of ALEY, before and after these assassinations as if he knew about the presence of these threats.

4
Mr. Walid Al MOAALEM, Syrian Minister for the Foreign Affairs, positioned his requests on the Lebanese chess-board, speaking about a government of participation with the opposition with a Lebanese strategy interdependent of the Syrian strategy. If not, it thinks that Lebanon will sink in the disorders.

5
Mr. Amine GEMAYEL wishes that at the time of a presidential election one be able to solve the problems by a program of a democratic modern state.

6
Mr. George AADOUANE, points out that the assassins of Pierre BOULOS are in Syria, and that the killers of the two young people Ziad KABALANE and Ziad GHANDOUR can be already hidden in Syria. The majority of the killers flee towards Syria. The next president must continue the Revolution of the Cedar.

7
Mr. Fares BOUEIZE says that it is not possible to make parliamentary elections before the election of a president. A new government would be needed.

8
Mr. Naim KASEM, vice secretary general of HEZBOLLAH, the 29th April 2007 informs: `it will not have again president there if there is no prior agreement on the respect of the constitution of a support of two thirds of the Parliament for a candidate'. Let us recall that the majority of government SANIORA does not have two thirds of the current deputies.

9
In Tripoli, a child was removed then he found freedom.

10
The majority of the Lebanese politicians agree to saying that an agreement between the Lebanese leaders for the establishment of the International Tribunal to judge the assassins of Rafic HARIRI, former Prime Minister is impossible.

11
Mr. Fouad SANIORA remains in the Seraglio without Shiites ministers. Mr. Nabih BERRI does not open meetings at the Parliament. Mr. Emile LAHOUD wants to remain in the Palace until the end of his mandate. All the Lebanese ones which manage to have visas leave the country per hundreds of thousands. Those which remain are increasingly poor and are afraid of a civil war and return of the Syrian supervision.

II - the position of the LSTDO:

1
One should not be mistaken in objective. If the International Court which must be decided with UNO is essential, it will not make slow down of anything the Lebanese ones which have usurped the power in collaboration with the Syrian regime for thirty years. They want to dominate again and hope to be supported by the Syro-Iranian axis. The solution to protect democratic and independent Lebanon is double: to gather all the Lebanese democratic forces in spite of their diversities, and to reinforce the democratic spirit and the means in the Lebanese army which must defend democratic Lebanon and his independence from any interference of the close countries.

2
As held of the political forces in place currently, best is to find an agreement between the group of General AOUN and the group of March 14 which supports the current Saniora government. These two groups have natural vocation to be found together on democratic bases. Their political chiefs take a heavy responsibility to have maintained the conflicts between them with the detriment for the general interest of the country and the people. Together they will have two thirds of the deputies at the Parliament to be able to choose a president and to build a strong and democratic government.

3
The purpose of the regrouping of the democratic forces is not to create a war against Hezbollah and his prosyrian allies. It is a question of directing the State in the good democratic direction while hoping to find subjects of agreements with HEZBOLLAH. It will be able to continue to be a political party with the provision of disarming itself. The rights of the Shiites will be guaranteed by the Constitution, the State of right, and the Lebanese army like the rights of all the other Lebanese communities.

4
In front of obsolete ancestral ideologies but which prevail in the Middle-East, the incipient democratic forces are threatened. But a chance exists owing to the fact that the UNO and democratic countries currently realize that the people should be helped to have their freedoms and the democracy as solution of the peace and the socio-economic development.
