Reactions on
the Lebanese political and economic news
03/20/2007: we ask for the activation of the Parliament and a new electoral law according to the single candidature in each district of small size with votes in the majority in three turns.
I- Facts:
The Lebanese media disseminated information on the dialogues, the meetings and the indirect threats between the political chiefs who hold the monopolies of the powers in Lebanon. This country is in economic situation of paralysis maintained by these chiefs’ attitudes. They seek to impose guarantees for their own interests while threatening of civil war. They make fun of the people while making believe that they defend the interest of the country.
Some deputies went to the Parliament to claim to be able to do their work for which they were elected. During this time, the hegemonic chiefs are in their castle of luxury. Their powers enriched them and they do not need to work.
II- LSTDO Position:
We point out that we want a real democracy which will make it possible to reform the Lebanese laws, by the will of a majority at the Parliament. The freedom of the deputies must be protected from all the pressures of the hegemonic chiefs who threaten by the weapons or their alliances with foreign forces. Any negotiation out of the Lebanese political authorities and the laws decided at the Parliament is null and will not be respected by the citizens.
The first bill which is urgent is the electoral law. It is necessary to vote in an electoral district with only one deputy. Each present administrative district must be divided into three electoral districts on average so that the parliamentary candidate is really known by his voters. The choice is done by elections with three consecutive turns for each electoral district according to the mode of the majority. The number of the deputies on the national level must be balanced so that half of the deputies are of Christian origin and other half of Moslem origin. We want a laic state but the people of Lebanon have a history and it suffers from the confessionals and the absence from confidence to a power dominated by a confession while excluding other confessions. This is why, the equality between Christians and Moslems in the distribution of the powers of the state and the assignments of the civil servants, are an obligation of the Constitution in order to preserve peace and the development in Lebanon.
Currently, there is no confidence towards the institutions of the state. This is why we ask about the current conflict subject of the international court for the political crimes committed in Lebanon that it be completely independent of the negotiations made by the hegemonic Lebanese chiefs. United Nation Organization has the duty and the right of interference to protect a threatened state and people.
